Incorrect Encoder Decoder Assignment

MXNet Control4: Incorrect Encoder/Decoder Assignment Correction



If one or more encoder(s) or decoder(s) were installed in the incorrect locations, and the video switching events are switching the incorrect output, the encoder(s)/decoder(s) need to be swapped in the Control4 driver. This guide will show you the preferred method for changing the bindings on your encoder(s)/decoder(s), instead of physically moving them to their correct location(s) or having to modify control system programming.


This guide is written for an existing installation that is already configured for Control4. For help with initial setup, please see our guides for  Off-Site Pre-Commissioning  and  On-Site Installation .

Here is a scenario for this example: The input switching is correct for the Kitchen and Living Room but switching for both the Garage and Master Bedroom are not working properly. When attempting to change inputs on the Garage, the Master Bedroom switches. When attempting to change inputs on the Master Bedroom the Garage switches. The decoders for the Garage and the Master Bedroom were installed in the incorrect locations. This was verified by enabling the on-screen display (OSD) on the decoder devices, checking the display video for the MAC addresses, and comparing the MAC addresses to the installation device table. 


This is an example of why it is important to document the MAC address and location of each encoder and decoder during your initial installation.


Note: While this example focuses on the decoder devices, the same methods can be used to swap encoder devices when output switching is correct, but the video sources are swapped.


  1.      In System Design tab click on MXNET device driver, and open the Properties tab.


                                 
                                        

  2. Take note of the MAC Addresses that need to be swapped. These are shown under Receiver Device Selection in the Properties tab.
      

      


  1. Select and delete the MAC address (leaving the field blank) and click the “Set” button for each of the encoders/decoders that are being swapped.

  2. These devices should now display in the properties page as <unassigned>.


                  

            

  1. In Unassigned Devices in the Properties tab, click on the drop-down for Select Unassigned Device, select a device MAC address from the dropdown, and click “Set” to select the device.

            
                                             
  1. Enter the correct port number in the “Specify Port for this Device” field and click “Set” to assign the selected device MAC address to the specified input/output port. Repeat for every other unassigned encoder/decoder.

  2. Test the system to make sure issue is resolved and switching behaviour is as expected.

  3. Make sure to update the installation documentation, including updating the device table to reflect proper MAC address, binding, and location information.
