Non-48kHz HDMI Source with AC-MXNET-1G-DANTE-EV2

Non-48kHz HDMI Source with AC-MXNET-1G-DANTE-EV2

Not just a resolution, an innovative solution.

MXNet's advanced hardware design allows a Dante encoder to act as more than just a standard HDMI-to-Dante on-ramp. Connecting the balanced analog output to the analog TRS input allows an integrator to resample incoming HDMI audio from 32–192kHz to a traditional sample rate of 48kHz.

Why is this important?

Recent updates to Apple tvOS have changed the basic LPCM output of an Apple TV to 44.1kHz regardless of EDID settings. Because Dante systems must use the same sample rate for all encoders and decoders to route audio between them, sending Apple TV audio at 44.1kHz will cause the audio to break and become digital noise. Looping the analog audio output into the analog input allows us to convert the 44.1kHz HDMI digital audio into raw analog audio, which contains no sample rate, then convert it back into 48kHz digital audio, allowing it to function within the Dante system. This conversion is especially useful in systems that use devices such as set-top boxes, which may also have variable sample rates depending on the broadcast.

How to create a cable in the field

  1. Obtain the 5-pin Phoenix extracted audio connector.
  2. If the IR emitter was unused, cut off both heads and remove a short section of wire.
  3. Separate the IR emitter wires into individual conductors. Use these to connect the L− and R− posts to the ground post.
  4. If the IR eye was unused, keep the TRS end and cut the IR eye cable to length, discarding the IR eye.
  5. Using this new TRS-to-3-conductor wire, connect the bare wire to the ground post, the white wire to the L+ post, and the red wire to the R+ post.
